For better or worse, many of us love a tipple.
But some of the most pertinent drinking advice is not to go overboard with the booze while traveling—especially in an unfamiliar city. One convenient loophole to this advice is to check in at a booze-based hotel where, even if you overindulge, you’re never more than a hop, skip, and stumble to your room.
As a refined travel media outlet, we have to advise against irresponsible drinking, but that doesn’t mean we can’t point you in the direction of outstanding places to indulge in a libation or four. These booze-based hotels beat the bar any day.
Doghouse Manchester
Location: Manchester, UK
Price: $150+
Vibe: Hop quality
The rundown: Scottish craft beer giants Brewdog have been changing the game since they were founded back in 2007, and its newest venture, hotels, are no different. The Manchester Doghouse location is a stellar addition to its growing lineup of beer-focused accommodations.
Guests can enjoy a shower beer or five, their own in-room tap, beer-related decor, and a lovely tab at the bar and restaurant downstairs. Doesn’t get much better than that.
The Distillery
Location: London, UK
Price: $190
Vibe: A great stay—gin and out
The rundown: The distillery is a top pick for a unique stay on your next London trip. This dinky little property has only three rooms, cozily furnished with gin and whisky-inspired decor.
But the gem is the basement gin and whisky bar serving excitingly fresh cocktails using its in-house distilled gin and whisky. Guests can also enjoy other boozy activities like tequila tastings and whisky-blending workshops.
Matices Hotel de Barricas
Location: Tequila, Mexico

Each of the barrel cabins has been designed beautifully to echo the culture of the surrounding city. When you feel like emerging from your abode, tequila tastings, an excellent restaurant, and tours of the farm itself await.
Louisville Marriott East
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
Price: $140+
Vibe: Whiskey lover’s paradise
The rundown: Any fan of Maker’s Mark whisky will stumble upon a familiar color in the lobby of the Louisville Marriott East. It’s over the top but gloriously similar to the bottle’s famous wax-dripped top setting the scene for a bourbon-drenched stay.
When you’re not sipping from your room’s whiskey barrel minibar, you can indulge in a few cocktails or hit ‘em straight from the wide selection of bourbons. The entire hotel is packed with nods to bourbon, from books in-room to the little whisky museum perfect to meander through before a big night on the trail.
The Balmoral
Location: Edinburgh, Scotland
Price: $200+
Vibe: Scotch corner
The rundown: We’ve covered The Balmoral before, but it’s that good we’ll put it in again. While Edinburgh’s finest hotel isn’t necessarily centered around whisky (note there’s no “e” when referring to Scotch), its whisky bar is one of the best on the planet.SCOTCH is an endearingly warm little corner of the hotel, atmospherically lit for guests to appreciate the five hundred different single malts and blends in the cabinet. Kilt-clad experts will walk you through a tasting session to help you discover the best of Scotland’s biggest export.
Il Borro Relais & Chateaux
Location: Tuscany, Italy
Price: $470+
Vibe: An Italian vineyard dream
The rundown: How could we build an alcohol-based hotel list without including an Italian winery? Achingly beautiful, the historic 19th-century farm feels more like a remote village.
On top of producing its own wines and boasting a tremendous restaurant, the hotel is nestled among an expansive estate, free for guests to explore on foot or horseback. You’ll need the exercise after everything you’ll be eating and drinking.
Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa
Location: Champillon, France
Price: $1,000
Vibe: Champainfully luxurious
The rundown: This isn’t cheap. But picture this: you wake up in a luxury Champillon hotel and enjoy a decadent breakfast before being whisked away by your private Champagne butler to visit the finest Champagne houses in the region.
