Delta is giving American a run for its money, adds six new routes

Given the recent airline climate, it’s nice to report on happier flight news. Over the Christmas weekend, Delta quietly rolled out six new domestic flight routes. The new flights won’t begin operation until at least spring 2023, but you can start planning ahead. 

The upcoming routes are a clear move by Delta to continue its goal of becoming the leader of US-based commercial aviation. Here’s the full list: 

• Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) — Memphis International Airport (MEM), with once-daily service beginning May 8th

• BOS — Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF), with once-daily service beginning May 8th

• Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) — Nashville International Airport (BNA), with three-times-daily service beginning Oct. 9th

• DCA — Orlando International Airport (MCO), with twice-daily service beginning on Oct. 9th

• DCA — Miami International Airport (MIA), with once-daily service beginning on Oct. 9th

• LaGuardia Airport (LGA) — Clinton National Airport (LIT) serving Little Rock, Arkansas, with once-daily service beginning on May 8th

The news means more competition between Delta and one of its top competitors, American Airlines, which already operates service in all six markets.

Delta also recently launched new routes to Puerto Rico from northeastern territories. The carrier has begun nonstop service from both Boston Logan Airport and Detroit’s Wayne County Airport to San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. 

The new route between BOS and San Juan will be operating daily until April 23, 2023, while service from Detroit will be operating once-weekly on Saturdays through April 8.
