Japanese airline, Star Flyer, is hoping to entice Tokyo-based workers to move to a different city by offering up unlimited flights to Tokyo and rental accommodation.
The airline asks for remote workers in Japan to move to Fukuoka in exchange for a monthly subscription service that includes unlimited flights to Tokyo and rental accommodation in the Fukuoka area.
The hope is to tap into the remote worker population domestically to help the island nation recover from the economic downturn that came along with the pandemic. By attracting business travelers, they’re hoping to draw people away from the big city of Tokyo to a quieter and calmer life in Fukuoka.
The unlimited flights would still let subscribers visit the big city as much as they want, of course. Not a bad deal given that the area is known for its ramen and beautiful landscapes.
While Japan isn’t currently among the Asian countries offering digital nomad visas just yet, it might be worth asking your boss what your company’s relocation policy is once the time comes. I know I would jump at the chance to live in a part of Japan famous for its ramen and cherry blossoms.
