Starting this Friday, the Biden administration will end its policy of sending out free Covid-19 at-home tests due to insufficient funding.
A banner across the program’s website currently reads, “Ordering through this program will be suspended on Friday, September 2 because Congress hasn’t provided additional funding to replenish the nation’s stockpile of tests.”
The program allowed people in the US to get tests delivered to their homes at no cost. Now, a source from the White House is saying that unless there is a surprise round of funding, they will reserve the remaining tests for distribution later in the year.
With the stockpile of tests quickly depleting, the administration is trying to ensure that they will have enough tests in the case of a fall surge.
The website is still accepting orders placed before September 2nd.
