Forget crowded cafes and overpriced co-working spaces! Uruguay may not be your typical remote work haven, but their new digital nomad visa will have you trading lattes for mate and board meetings for sunsets on the beach to top off your workday.
Uruguay’s digital nomad visa is super easy to obtain with a quick online application and no minimum income requirement. Digital nomads can also take advantage of Uruguay’s tax exemption on technological services, providing them with a convenient way to pursue their careers without high taxes.
How do I apply?
Individuals can apply as a tourist to enter the country by completing an online form on the government website. This includes providing personal information and confirming financial capability to support oneself. Once the application fee is paid, the permit will be sent via email, allowing a 180-day stay in the country.
If you’d like to extend your visa beyond 180 days, you’ll need to provide evidence of a clean criminal record from all the countries where you have lived for more than six months in the last five years, along with a vaccination certificate issued in Uruguay.
What is the cost?
The fee is around $11, but foreign bank accounts cannot be used for payment. It’s best to wait until you’re in Uruguay to apply for the permit so you can pay the fee at shops if you don’t have a local bank account. Applicants must complete the payment within one day of submitting the application.
