As part of Uber’s planned expansion into a travel booking app, travelers in the UK can now book train and bus services through the Uber app.
The new Uber Travel feature allows travelers to book rail and bus travel within the app. It also mines users’ flight data to get updated information based on travel disruptions and itinerary updates.
When users book through the app, Uber will act as the merchant of record and travelers can contact their help center to resolve any ticket or customer service issues as well.
For now, the new feature is only available to a limited set of customers and to those using train and bus services provided by Omio. This also includes long-distance international trains like Eurostar. Uber plans to extend the service to all its users by the end of August.
The expansion is the latest step in the ride-sharing giant’s plans to expand further into the travel sector. They already provide boat and scooter rentals as well as food delivery services, but their plans could soon extend into car rental bookings as well as flight and hotel accommodations.
