Lufthansa has begun offering a new ‘Green’ fare option that will offset carbon emissions while providing travelers with more points benefits.
The new fare is part of the airline’s goal to halve its CO2 emissions by 2030 and to be completely carbon neutral by 2050.
Both economy and business travelers can book Green flights, but it seems to be most advantageous for those who fly business class. The Business Green option has nearly identical perks to the Business Flex class, including 20% bonus award miles and 20% bonus status miles. The only difference is that the fare is non-refundable.
Meanwhile, Economy fliers get that extra 20% in bonus perks but they miss out on earlier flight options, priority security lanes, and priority boarding.
The fare is currently only available for intra-Europe flights in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden but includes Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, and Brussels Airlines.
