Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has found herself at the center of controversy after videos of her partying with celebrities surfaced online.
Marin, who is the world’s youngest sitting Prime Minister at 36, was seen dancing and singing at a party and openly admitted to drinking alcohol. Backlash surrounding her maturity and competency ensued, culminating in her taking a drug test to maintain some semblance of control of the situation.
The situation has sparked debate and comparison around the world as to what is expected of politicians. One particularly amusing tweet compared American politicians by saying, “Finland: Our leader is young, based, and parties too hard. America: Our leaders are basically corpses, have no good ideas, never invited to parties.” Other suggested Presidents have played golf far more than Marin has probably partied.
Similar attacks were launched at American politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after a video was posted online of her dancing in college for an organized promotional video. The posting was intended to ridicule AOC but backfired heavily, sprouting a wave of support for the congresswoman.
