It’s the most wonderful stressful time of the year. Holiday travel can deflate the spirits of even the most festive people. To make holiday travel less stressful, make use of these excellent tips from Conde Nast Traveler, with a few of our own sprinkled in.
Skip the long TSA lines: TSA PreCheck just lowered its enrollment fee and Clear, a private company that allows users to skip long TSA lines, is currently offering a free 3-month membership through Kayak. Select which program makes the most sense for you based on your local airport. Or, better yet, combine them.
Pre-book your ride with Uber or Lyft
Save yourself the stress searching for a driver in the early morning hours by pre-booking your ride to the airport. Both Uber and Lyft allow riders to schedule rides ahead of time, which also serves as a great way to lock in pricing the night before.
Just don’t forget to rack up those free airline and hotel points on Uber and Lyft while you’re at it.
Get discounted lounge access (and free food): Avoid the crowded gates and get access to more than 1,300 lounges around the world through Priority Pass. The pass usually starts at $99 but you can get as high as 50% off for a limited time. As a bonus, Priority Pass holders also receive discounts at select airport restaurants, helping you rack up the savings even if there’s no lounge nearby.
Reserve a spot: If you don’t want to spend money to skip the security line, check to see if your airport offers TSA reservations. More than a dozen North American airports and three European ones let you reserve a spot in 20-minute windows.
Check your credit card: Credit cards often come with a whole slew of travel perks. Double-check what benefits you can take advantage of. Some cards even reimburse you when you sign up for TSA PreCheck. If you’re using Lyft, be sure to use your Chase cards to enjoy bonus perks.
