Summer might still be heating up but flight prices are slowly cooling down. This week, US inflation data showed that airfare has dropped 8.1% from May to June.
This is the biggest drop in nearly a year and the second biggest drop since April 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic brought air travel to a screeching halt. It appears that airfare will only continue to dip as the summer progresses into fall.
What’s contributing to the price drop?
A few things are at play here including cheaper fuel and more consistent levels of travel across the board. Airlines are able to estimate costs and service routes needed much more easily as a result.
It should be noted that even though prices across the board are coming down, summer travel is always a bit more expensive. However, it’s not impossible to score a flight deal in the coming months.
