As of November 30th, American Airlines is no longer selling AirPass memberships.
The program, which allowed travelers to pre-purchase travel at fixed prices and granted them extra perks like last-minute ticket changes, Admirals Club access, and premium seating, will no longer be offered.
Though American Airlines did not give a reason for the change, it could be that the pre-paid program simply didn’t garner enough interest. It’s also possible that the price wasn’t cost-effective for customers, especially after American got rid of change fees on most ticket types earlier this year.
Who will be affected?
Doing away with the program means that new people can’t join and existing members won’t be renewed either. Any existing members can spend their remaining balance or request a refund.
Luckily, those who purchased lifetime AirPass memberships will still hold onto their memberships.
