There’s more to the ticket cost than meets the eye.
The White House on Monday a rule that would require all airlines to be transparent with passengers about add-ons fees when booking flights. “You should know the full cost of your ticket right when you’re comparison shopping,” said President Biden.
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will require that under this rule, all airlines and third-party sites selling airfares have to immediately disclose fees related to canceling or changing a flight, checked or carry-on luggage, and seating fees, especially for families traveling together.
The additional costs stack up significantly beyond the base fare, and this rule would require airlines to provide cost information when the quoted airfare is first displayed. Passengers are then able to select a ticket that is the best deal for them.
This applies to both US and international airline carriers on flights to, from, or within the states.
Biden’s new initiative will save Americans money and prompt more competitive prices across carriers.
The proposed rule will undergo a 60-day review and public comment period before enacted.
Many Americans are ready for the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth when it comes to airline fees, especially with an uptick in inflation. Here’s hoping they actually get it.
