The United States Department of State has come up with an innovative solution to help you obtain your passport faster. Introducing the “Special Passport Acceptance Fairs” which are specifically designed for new passport applications, providing a convenient and streamlined way for travelers to complete the application process.
Finding a fair near you
The Special Passport Acceptance Fairs are being organized at various locations across the United States. From public libraries to recreation centers and local city administrative offices, these events are conveniently held in accessible venues. While California and New Jersey are hosting a majority of the events, other states such as Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, Texas, and Wisconsin are also included. The complete schedule is regularly updated on the US Department of State’s website, ensuring you won’t miss out on any new events.
Applying at the fairs
It’s important to note that these special events cater exclusively to new passport applications. If you’re renewing an existing passport, the Department encourages you to apply by mail. For those eligible to participate, attending a fair allows you to complete your passport application in person, making the process smoother and more efficient.
Beyond the fairs
If the Special Passport Acceptance Fairs are not being held near your location, don’t fret! The Department maintains a searchable list of Post Offices and other locations that can assist in processing passport applications, which can be accessed via zip code.
Expediting your passport
While the current routine service processing time ranges from 10 to 13 weeks, the expedited service shortens the wait to 7 to 9 weeks. However, if you have international travel plans within 14 calendar days, you can request an appointment to expedite your passport at an agency. This option ensures that you receive your passport in time for your urgent trip.
