If you’ve yet to book your spring or summer travel, this new survey might sway where you fly into.
Airports Council International (ACI) surveys passengers at nearly 400 airports in 95 countries and they share the results in the annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards. Now, ACI has finally revealed the rankings for 2022 and they’ve added four new categories that highlight how travel is evolving as we transition out of the pandemic.
The awards recognized the top 5% of airports in these four new categories:
- The airports with the most dedicated staff
- The easiest airport journeys
- The cleanest airports
- The most enjoyable airports, which were determined by their restaurant, shopping, and entertainment offerings and their efforts to make the waiting time more comfortable.
Which airports were the standouts?
- Europe and Asia-Pacific dominated the 2022 winner list. Italian airports made an appearance in all four categories while Spain made the winners list in every category except the most enjoyable airports.
- Turkey had two of the most enjoyable airports while Indonesia dominated with three.
- In the US, the same two airports appeared in every category. Those were the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Michigan and the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina. Portland, Oregon’s airport also made the list for most dedicated staff and easiest airport journey.
- In the Latin America-Caribbean region, Ecuador was the clear winner, in every category.
Though we don’t choose our destinations based on the airport, a bad airport experience can ruin a trip. So, if you’re planning a trip soon, consider flying into the airports that made the top rankings, especially in 2022, which was filled with travel chaos. Additionally, if you’re planning a Euro trip, you should also be aware of the upcoming strikes that could cause potential train and flight disruptions.
