As someone who’s constantly trying to perfect the art of the carry-on, I can confidently say I know a thing or two about wardrobe essentials. Finding items that are stylish, versatile, and pack down into next to nothing is my superpower.
Not only is it nice to get everything into a carry-on, but it’s great to have all the items you need to stay comfortable and feel confident. From an effortless button-down to the last shoe you’ll ever need, consider this your go-to checklist for your next trip.
Packable puffer jacket
Packing for cold weather is a real mind-bender. You want to look cute, but you want to be warm. And then there’s the whole issue of stuffing winter’s bulky wardrobe bounty into your suitcase. Say no more. I have you covered with this packable puffer jacket that can be worn in all seasons. The tailored waist makes it super stylish, and it condenses down into a tiny pouch when not in use.
White, versatile sneakers
A pair of white sneakers is a must, whether paired with a dress for a casual-meets-cute look, or with an athleisure getup. Go for a lived-in look so you don’t have to worry about scuffs and dirt cramping your style.
Shelf-bra tank
The perfect athleisure staple is a shelf-bra tank. I love the sculpting effect of this one, along with the V-neck design. It’s great for layering, dressing up with a pair of jeans or a maxi skirt, or wearing it for an actual workout.
Breezy button down
I need this shirt in every possible color. Tie it around your waist for an effortlessly chic look, or wear it to warm up or protect yourself from the sun. It packs down to nothing, is lightweight, and has a comfortable, flowy fit.
Comfortable block heel slides
If you want something feminine without discomfort, a low-block heel is the way to go. I swear I could exercise in these, but I won’t. The two-inch heel is just enough to dress an outfit up, but the low-profile design can be worn day or night.
Slip dress
I wear slip dresses in warm and cold weather alike. They’re undeniably comfortable yet refined. Wear one over a turtleneck with stockings and boots in the winter, or on its own in the summer. Dress it down with sneakers, or up with some heels. You can’t go wrong!
Biker shorts
Biker shorts are the athleisure gift that keeps on giving. I pretty much own every pair in every length from Lululemon. They’re buttery soft, allow you to move without constraints, and translate well from the gym to the streets when styled right.
Black denim jacket
What I love the most about a denim jacket is that it’s casually cool. Black denim is the right choice because it’s sleek enough to wear over a dressier outfit. Opt for a true black hue to give the illusion of a dressier look come nighttime.
Faux leather leggings
Commando is one of my favorite brands for creating the illusion that you’re dressed up. These faux leather leggings come in various colors and look amazing paired with sneakers, boots, or block heels.
Matching set
I don’t care how dressed up or down you are, if it’s matching, you look put together. Right now, my go-to is from a new brand on the market, Sierra Madre. Technically a golf set, I’ve been wearing this super stretchy, flattering top and skort on repeat.

One-piece swimsuit/bodysuit
If you can’t tell already, I like versatile wardrobe staples that can work in different ways. What I love about this classy swimsuit is that I can use it to jump in the pool or ocean, and then once dry, pair it with a skirt, linen pants, or even a pair of jeans so it can double as a bodysuit.
Crossbody bag
If you can only bring one bag with you on a trip, let this be it. The cognac color goes with everything, while the vegan leather material gives it a sophisticated look. I love the small interior pockets that keep all my items organized, as well as the full-length back pocket for holding items I want easy access to, like my phone, wallet, or passport.
