Streamlining security procedures for family travelers

TSA has announced an update to its TSA PreCheck program, granting teenagers aged 13-17 the ability to accompany their enrolled parents or guardians through expedited security screening. Teenagers can now join their parents or guardians in the expedited security line, provided they are listed on the same reservation and have the TSA PreCheck indicator on their boarding pass.

Previously, only children aged 12 and under were eligible for this benefit. This enhancement eliminates the need for parents to choose between enrolling their teens in TSA PreCheck, splitting up during security, or waiting in the regular security line.

Benefits and costs of TSA PreCheck membership

TSA PreCheck membership, valid for five years, costs $78 for initial enrollment and $70 for online renewals. The program allows travelers to pass through airport security faster by avoiding the removal of shoes, belts, light jackets, laptops, and liquids from carry-on bags. Some credit cards also offer reimbursement for TSA PreCheck enrollment, further incentivizing its adoption.
