The UK has officially announced Liz Truss as Britain’s new Prime Minister.

The announcement comes about two months after former PM Boris Johnson announced his resignation from the role.

Truss is the country’s third female prime minister. Coming into the role, Truss is already under pressure to address Britain’s energy crisis, overburdened health sector, labor unrest, and a looming recession. She’s already pledged to increase the UK’s defense spending from 2 to 3% of gross domestic product, another tall order.

Truss has until late 2024, the year the next national election is slated, to make a mark on her party and the nation.

As for Boris Johnson, he made his farewell speech yesterday, in which he called on the Conservative Party to unite behind Truss. He also compared himself to Cincinnatus, the Roman dictator who gave up his post to return to peaceful farm life. He said, “Like Cincinnatus, I am returning to my plow.” Despite the reference, the media is still abuzz with speculation that he may be plotting a comeback.
