The future seems closer than ever after Google launched the first demos of its newest communication product- Project Starline.

The high-tech-high-res video-conferencing booth is being touted as the future of communication, and the initial feedback is impressive. Fuzing together the basic concepts of Zoom or Google Meet with 3D trackers, movement sensors, and as many as eight specifically designed cameras, users are virtually tricked into feeling like they are sitting with the person on the other end.

Those lucky enough to try it out explain sliding into a booth and seeing their counterpart appear in front of them in full 3D. Virtual shadows and the illusion of depth make the screen feel obsolete, as if their partner was really there in front of them, increasing the intimacy of the conversation. The astounding tech even tracks users’ eyes to know where to focus the illusion.

While there is no timeline on when Starline could be available for use or what its price point could be (very high, most likely), it could be the future of remote interviews and examinations, as well as digital healthcare appointments. It’s now gearing up to be trialed at companies like WeWork and Salesforce. Proper scifi-level stuff.
