Delta fulfills its free Wi-Fi promise...kind of.

Delta Airlines is slowly making good on its promise to offer free WiFi on all flights. But first, they’re testing the waters with free internet for their Medallion members on select aircraft.

Elite flyers can now check the ‘Deltawifi’ portal to see if their flight offers complimentary internet access. If it does, just enter your SkyMiles number and password to connect — no day pass or monthly subscription is required.

While Delta has offered free in-flight messaging for years, free in-flight Wi-Fi will finally give passengers unlimited internet access throughout the flight, without a cap on data usage.

Delta is looking to launch free Wi-Fi for non-elite passengers on domestic Viasat-equipped planes as of early 2023, a change that could save frequent flyers as much as $600 a year. The decision follows a larger trend of major US airlines offering free in-flight Wi-Fi, like JetBlue’s Fly-Fi.

Honestly, it’s about time. I can’t lie. There’s an unmatched feeling of having all your notifications flood the home screen when wheels touch down, but damn, 6 hours from JFK-LAX without my own selected forms of entertainment is torture.
