June is peak travel season, but this year there are some important travel warnings to know about. From weather to safety concerns, here are some warnings to heed while on your travels.
🇩🇴 Dominican Republic
The State Department is warning travelers in the Dominican Republic to “exercise increased caution” due to an increase in crime and sexual assault incidents after several reports of people being robbed by someone they’ve met on dating apps or having date rape drugs used on them.
It’s recommended that travelers avoid dark, secluded places, especially if there is alcohol involved. Authorities also urge people not to wear expensive jewelry and only take taxis that have been hailed by their hotel or a vetted company. We also recommend packing a safety tool or downloading safety apps for some extra peace of mind.
🇪🇸 Spain and 🇵🇹 Portugal
Travelers in Spain and Portugal are being warned of heavy rains and high winds due to Storm Oscar. The storm is expected to pass this week but people along the coasts and mountains should exercise extra caution and should be prepared for any flight delays that might occur as a result of the weather.
🇨🇦 Canada and the East Coast
Folks on the East Coast have likely noticed the air quality has worsened. Canadian wildfires are causing smoky skies and poor air quality and the situation doesn’t appear to be improving soon.
Some flights have been delayed due to reduced visibility, however, there isn’t a safety concern for passengers in the sky. However, anyone visiting the East Coast should consider limiting outdoor activities and even wearing a mask while outside. “Those with preexisting respiratory problems, like heart or breathing problems, as well as children and older adults may be especially sensitive and should stay indoors at this time,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
