United Airlines has partnered with Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia to offer one-stop connections to nearly 50 destinations in the region–making it the largest carrier between the US and the South Pacific.
San Francisco to Christchurch
United will launch its first-ever direct service to Christchurch, New Zealand from San Francisco on December 1, offering three nonstop flights per week. The airline will be the only nonstop flight to New Zealand’s South Island from the US.
Los Angeles to Auckland and Brisbane
United already operates daily service from San Francisco to Auckland, and it’s adding a second flight to the largest New Zealand city during peak season. Starting on October 28, the airline will connect LA with Auckland on a seasonal basis. It will complement Air New Zealand’s up-to-two daily flights between the cities.
Last year, United launched its first-ever service to Brisbane, Australia, with a new route from San Francisco. The airline is now adding another flight to this Australian city from LA. The LA to Brisbane service will kick off on November 29 and operate three times a week.
United’s partnership with Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia
United’s expansion in the South Pacific has been made possible due to partnerships with two of the most significant players in the South Pacific aviation market: Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia. The partnership has been a win-win for the two carriers and passengers. The airlines’ reciprocal frequent flyer perks and expanded codeshare agreements allow for more routes and simplified operations.
