Did you know that there’s a term for that feeling when you visit a city and it just doesn’t live up to the hype? That feeling of disappointment is called Paris Syndrome.
A recent study from Radical Storage, a luggage storage company, revealed that the most disappointing city to visit is Orlando, Florida.
The company analyzed over 826,000 trip advisor reviews to determine the rankings. They found that 1 in 5 reviews of Orlando were negative and the city had the most global mentions of how ‘disappointed’ visitors were in their experience.
Orlando was also among Singapore, Marrakech, and Punta Cana for being a place that left visitors feeling like the attraction prices weren’t worth the cost and that they were ripped off on food and souvenirs.
The most disappointing
While the US destination took the top spot, it was the only US city in the top 10. Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, landed in 2nd place while Pattaya Thailand wound up in third. China had three cities in the top 10 while Indonesia and Vietnam each had two spots. Notably, there were no European cities in the top 10.
As for the most ‘overrated city’, Da Nang, Vietnam, known for its famous Golden Bridge, and Paris followed closely behind, living up to the Paris Syndrome term.
The pleasant surprises
It’s not all negative reviews, though. Radical Storage also listed the top 10 cities that exceeded tourists’ expectations. Coming in first was Budapest with reviews including terms like ‘pleasantly surprised’, ‘stunning’, and ‘beautiful’. Brussels and Zurich took home silver and bronze, respectively.
