The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is cracking down on service providers for failing to take action against pesky (and illegal) robocalls.
While the Commission had been relying on fining providers for failing to meet anti-robocall requirements, it seems that did not light enough of a fire under some providers. The FCC announced that companies that fail to implement the proper protocols over the next two weeks will now have their calls blocked and face expulsion from America’s phone networks.
“Providers that don’t follow our rules and make it easy to scam consumers will now face swift consequences,” said FCC chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.
Though the FCC has taken major steps in the last few years to tackle robocalls, they are also working on a proposal that would require carriers to block spam text messages.
Sure, it’s great news that they want to reduce the number of scam texts but I’m not exactly enthused about being forced to acknowledge just how few people call or text me once this all goes through.
