When it comes to solo travel, women have a lot to consider in terms of safety when visiting any unfamiliar destination and it can make planning a trip a daunting task.

As many as 24% of women have scrapped their travel plans due to safety concerns, but there’s good news for solo female travelers as WayAway, a travel website, has done the research for us. They analyzed over 200 cities to identify the top 30 safest destinations for women traveling alone by talking to locals, examining safety reports, and considering independent safety rankings to compile a list of safe destinations.

The top safest cities for women to explore on their own:

  1. Reykjavik, Iceland
  2. San Juan, Puerto Rico
  3. Budapest, Hungary
  4. Singapore
  5. Madrid, Spain
  6. Toronto, Canada
  7. Boston, USA
  8. Munich, Germany
  9. Dublin, Ireland
  10. Berlin, Germany

As someone who often waits on other people to join me in my adventures because I am too timid to do it alone, this list gives me some peace of mind knowing I won’t have to do all the research on my own. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Budapest, Berlin, and Prague have already been in my top 5 places to visit this year so this is my sign to pack my solo trip essentials and book the flights already!
