Summer is just around the corner and it seems that all people are talking about is how expensive summer travel is this year. Luckily, Expedia did the research and found what the cheapest days are for flying this summer and how to score those airfare deals.
What to know before booking domestic travel:
- Late August is the cheapest period for flights. More specifically, the weekend before Labor Day, on Sunday, August 27 is the best day to book to get a good deal.
- The quietest travel day will be August 24. That would be a good day to travel if you like to bet on upgrades.
- Early July is the priciest travel period with July 1 being both the most expensive and busiest travel day.
- The sweet spot to book domestic travel is about 21 to 60 days out, so now’s the time to start searching for deals.
- NYC, LA, and Seattle were the top three domestic summer travel destinations.
What about international travel?
- International travel is all the rage. Flight searches for destinations abroad rose by 25% for June through August compared to 2022.
- The top international destinations are a mix of metropolitan getaways and sunny destinations. Cancun took the top spot and was followed by London, Rome, Punta Cana, and Paris.
- Searches for Asia are up by triple digits. For example, searches for Osaka flights are up 592% compared to the same period last year.
Can I still snag a cheap flight?
- NYC, LA, Orlando, Vegas, and Boston were in the top 5 domestic destinations you could still score airfare for under $400 roundtrip.
- Vancouver, Cancun, Punta Cana, Montego Bay, and San Jose del Cabo were the top 5 international destinations with airfare deals under $600 roundtrip.
- If you’re not already a Dollar Flight Club Premium Plus Member, we recommend signing up or upgrading so you can get flight deals based around the departure airports of your choosing.
