Well, that was short-lived. Almost as soon as the Biden administration opened up its student loan forgiveness application, a Texas judge has blocked the relief program.
The application website is currently displaying a large banner reading “Courts have issued orders blocking our student debt relief program. As a result, at this time, we are not accepting applications. We are seeking to overturn those orders.”
US District Judge Mark Pittman blocked the program, calling it “unlawful” on the grounds that it didn’t follow the proper legal process. He declared the program was illegal because it was launched without giving borrowers an opportunity to provide public comment beforehand.
But I already submitted my application, what do I do now?
Sit tight. The Education Department is holding applications from the already 26 million people who already applied. The administration is also working to overturn those orders.
