With passport processing getting easier, it’s only right that the airport experience does too. Around 175 airports across the country have been fitted with technology capable of allowing passengers through security without showing a boarding pass.
The Credential Authentication Technology system allows TSA staff to scan a government-issued ID instead of a cross-check with a boarding pass. The tech will instantly match the passenger’s name with their flight information, confirming they are allowed to enter the de[partures area.
By eliminating the typical fumbled attempts to hand over passports and boarding passes, it’s estimated that most passengers will save between ten and fifteen minutes during the boarding process.
Eligible IDs include passports, US driver’s licenses, Nexus cards, Global Entry Cards, and Permanent Resident Cards.
