Add Portugal to your list of potential places to live as a digital nomad. Portugal just announced its new visa which will allow remote workers to live and work in the sun kissed country for up to 12 months.
The land of epic surf and delicious port wine has long been a hub for digital nomads thanks to its D7 visa, which only requires visitors to earn more than the Portuguese minimum wage of about $804 per month. The new visa, however, is aimed specifically at people looking to temporarily relocate whereas the D7 visa was originally intended for retirees.
Those hoping to qualify for the visa will need to prove they are employed in a foreign country and come from a country that is not in the European Union or the European Economic Area. There are few details regarding wage requirements and when applications will be open, but more details should be coming soon.
Portugal now joins the many European destinations hoping to attract remote workers with updated visas and looser restrictions but the picturesque country is an especially great choice for those who love exquisite beaches, delicious seafood, and a decadent pastel de nata or two.
