As if glamping wasn’t already an elevated experience on its own, Dubai is taking the coined term of glamorous camping to new heights with floating camping pods (yes, your eyes read that correctly).
Dubai-based Ardh Architects has conceptualized an otherworldly opportunity to sleep in these camping hangars suspended between two mountains at their Floating Retreat that’s expected to be built in the coming years, pending funding, planning, resources, and regulatory approval.
If approved, the hanging campsite will be situated in the Sharjah mountain range of the United Arab Emirates and will have 10 two-person tents, with the option to add more or fewer tents.
Using cables similar to what you’d find on a suspension bridge, the pods will be attached to a principal structure between two mountains. The floating tents can be adjusted individually based on the strength of winds and would hang about 328 feet above the ground.
What do these floating steel-framed tents offer?
Bed, bathroom, room service, WiFi, and television.
Interior layouts that can be rearranged to accommodate psychedelic or business retreats.
A see-through fire and waterproof, breathable, and UV-resistant material that provides privacy.
Activities nearby and on-site, including organized tours, rock climbing, and a spa.
Restaurant and concierge on the ground floor.
If and when the floating hotel is built, it will be over an hour’s drive from Dubai and operate between November to May when the weather is cooler. Sightseeing and spa services will be available during the day in the summer.
