Holiday travel: Europe’s full strike schedule for December

European holiday trips could get complicated this year, as union members threaten strikes from December into January.

Travelers should be prepared for strikes that may impact holiday travel in several popular European destinations that could hurt train and air travel.

Strikes planned this holiday season that may impact your travel:

United Kingdom 

40,000 members of the Rail, Maritime, and Transport workers union (RMT) will walk out for eight days during the holidays. The strike will take place from December 13-14 and 16-17, as well as January 3-4 and 6-7.

Heathrow Airport baggage handlers are also on strike for 72 hours starting at 4 am on December 16.

Spain

USO and SITCPLA union members from Ryanair cabin crew in Spain have been on strike for five months and will run until January 7, from Monday to Thursday every week. Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, and Malaga airports will likely be affected.

Portugal 

Cabin crew for TAP Air will strike over wage cuts, staff shortages, and poor working conditions on December 8 and 9. 360 flights have already been canceled by the airline. The walkout will affect around 50,000 passengers in Portugal.

France

French unions and cabin crew have threatened easyJet and Air France with strike actions between December 22 and January 2. Depending on the outcome of the pay negotiations, these walkouts may or may not take place.
