Here’s when you can visit every national park for free in 2023

What’s the biggest deterrent of exploring the great outdoors? No, it’s not laziness. Well, maybe for some… but for others, it’s the cost of admission. Not all of America’s national parks are normally free, and it’s a subject that’s caused a lot of controversy over the years. 

In an effort to encourage people to explore one or more of the US’ 423 national park sites, the National Park Service has officially announced when it plans to waive entrance fees in 2023. 

There are several free days across all parks to take advantage of in the New Year, ranging from January through November. Each fee-free day is accompanied by national holidays or anniversary milestones.

The free entry days in 2023:

• Jan. 16 – Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday

• April 22 – First day of National Park Week

• Aug. 4 – Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act

• Nov. 11 – Veteran’s Day

The fee-free days only wave entrance fees. Camping, transportation, special tours, and various other amenity and user fees will proceed as usual.
