Flying Blue adds free stopovers: How you can take advantage

Flying Blue, the loyalty program for Air France and KLM, just announced some major news, adding free stopovers to award tickets in the coming days.

A year-long layover?

Ben Lipsey, Flying Blue’s SVP of customer loyalty, announced the news Monday in a webinar, sharing, “Now, you can stopover for no additional charge for up to a year.” Customers will now be able to stay on a stopover for up to 12 months before continuing onto their final destination.

A stopover can be a great way to break up a long trip, especially if it’s a city on your bucket list, like Paris or Amsterdam, the hubs for Air France and KLM. Say you’re traveling from New York to Greece via Amsterdam. You’ll be able to have a stopover in Amsterdam for an extended amount of time at no extra cost.

The program is in the process of rolling out stopovers on award tickets; in the meantime, I’ll have my ear to the ground for you when those additional details are available.

How Americans can take advantage of Flying Blue
As a frequent flyer program, Flying Blue also offers the most transatlantic business class award seats on Air France and KLM, and its miles are suprisingly easy to accrue for those wanting to get more for their flight mileage. Among Flying Blue’s transfer partners are American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Citi ThankYou.
