I miss the days when getting picked up by a rideshare at the airport didn’t come with so many directions. I once used to enjoy curbside pickup at LAX without any drama. Now, I have to be packed into a bus like a sardine, often told where and how to store my luggage, then driven to an offsite lot where I must meet my driver at a very specific location. It’s all too much!
Uber has heard my woes (and likely yours) and has rolled out a new process aimed at making things easier for travelers. While you may still have to go to a designated lot, the rideshare app is making the plane-to-car journey a smoother process by now offering in-app directions to pickup locations at over 30 airports worldwide.
Upon landing, riders can tap into the app to access written directions accompanied by photos that will lead them straight from the gate to the Uber pickup area. The new process has been rolled out for travelers at main hubs including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, London, Paris, and more. Directions at airports from more cities are expected to be added in the coming months.
Uber will also be rolling out walking estimates for over 400 airports worldwide, aiding travelers in scheduling their ride requests with greater precision.
I suppose that means my typical process of aimlessly wandering from the gate to the arrivals, and anxiously asking literally anyone with a pulse where the Uber pickup location is will soon diminish.
Apart from simplifying airport car requests, Uber is extending its Uber Reserve feature to allow travelers to pre-book their rides up to 90 days ahead of time. This feature enables travelers to reserve UberX, UberXL, Green, Comfort, Comfort Electric, Premier, Black, or Black SUV rides in advance.
During the month of March, Uber is providing Uber One members with a discount of $20 in Uber Cash for their next Uber Reserve ride by using the code “GORESERVE.”
