Fifty years ago, if you told a travel agent that in the future AI software would be able to create a personalized travel itinerary in minutes, they would have laughed you right out of their brick-and-mortar office. But that day is now here.
Expedia has officially given us the green light to talk to robots while planning our vacations. Instead of bothering randoms on the internet with questions like, “What’s the best hotel in Paris?” or reading through our best travel recommendations on Next Stop (which you should absolutely be doing), travelers can now turn to ChatGPT in Expedia’s app and let the AI do the talking.
Is it worth using?
With Expedia’s new chatbot tool powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, travelers can engage with the bot in the app and receive suggestions for destinations, hotels, transportation, and activities. ChatGPT will even automatically favorite hotels it recommends in the conversation for future reference, so Expedia users can use them to plan their dream vacations.
This beta version of the Expedia app is currently only available for iOS users and is only available in English.
Although OpenAI’s ChatGPT can provide helpful tips and recommendations, it does not offer the same level of service as a human travel agent. So, when it comes to booking your trip, you’ll either have to do it on your own or enlist the help of an experienced travel agent.
We, personally, think nothing quite beat personalized recommendations and tips from travel experts. We still recommend subscribing to our newsletters and signing up for flight deals because the bots still don’t find deals like Dollar Flight Club does.
