Having a solar eclipse watch party in the backyard seemed like a grandiose activity for watching the moon take the Sun’s spotlight for a couple of minutes, but check this out: Holland America Line is offering two solar eclipse cruises for total viewing during the eclipse next year on April 8, 2024.
Their two most special journeys of the season will be aboard the Koningsdam and the Zaandam, both docked in Mexico for totality viewing.
Two cruises offering total eclipse viewing
Zaandam’s 14-day Solar Eclipse Cruise departs on March 30, 2024, and visits various ports along the Mexican Riviera and Baja Peninsula. On the day of the eclipse – April 8, 2024 – guests will have front-row seats to witness the total eclipse in Mazatlán, Mexico.
Koningsdam’s 22-day Solar Eclipse Cruise follows the coast of Mexico for a full view of the eclipse before crossing the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. As part of the San Diego to Vancouver itinerary, the ship departs on April 5 for Cabo San Lucas and spends the day at sea on April 8 to observe the total eclipse. Following this, the ship departs for Puerto Vallarta before setting sail to Hawaii.
Holland America Line’s chief commercial officer, Beth Bodensteiner shared, “Our West Coast itineraries have been meticulously designed to showcase the best of each region, and we took extra time crafting the solar eclipse cruises so they are perfectly aligned to give our guests a total view. We expect them to book up quickly, so those who are interested shouldn’t delay.”
Bookings are now open for all voyages. Let’s hope they can convince Bonnie Tyler to perform “Total Eclipse of the Heart” on board as she did here. If that’s the case, I’m sold.
