Singapore just relaxed its COVID-19 entry protocol, and not that it totally stopped me from going before, but with these newly eased rules, I might have to tell the group chat that I’ve changed my mind and tag along on next week’s trip.
As of Monday, in an announcement from Singapore’s Ministry of Health, the government announced it will lift COVID precautions such as pre-departure testing and mask mandates regardless of vaccination status or traveler profile. However, all other general entry requirements must still be met by visitors.
Singapore previously required non-vaccinated travelers to take a COVID test 48 hours before departure, but as the city sees a drastic decline in the number of positive cases and no new variants have yet emerged, they are confident about these changes.
Since last August, when Singapore ended mandatory quarantine regardless of vaccination status, this is one of the biggest steps Singapore has taken in alleviating COVID-19 protocols and relief for many.
Despite the discarded COVID-19 public transport rule, many Singapore commuters still continue to wear masks, with some putting them on specifically for when they are about to board a train. As Singapore’s tourism industry expects 12 to 14 million visitors in 2023, up from 6.3 million in 2022, many are still concerned about crowding and choose to mask up.
Ruler-follower or not, travelers can find comfort in knowing that they can have a choice when visiting Singapore.
