California announced its new travel platform geared towards promoting the state’s indigenous populations. The platform is set to launch in March 2023.
A branch of Visit California, the Visit Native California program will start in the form of blog posts, podcasts, and itineraries that highlight some of the more than a hundred indigenous communities and tribes in the state.
The plans were announced in downtown Palm Springs at the new Agua Calientes cultural center, which will also open in 2023 as a place for people to learn about the indigenous people that have lived in the area for over a thousand years.
Some of the suggested destinations are the Redwood National Forest, where the Yurok have looked after the landscape for centuries, and even Yosemite, where visitors have the opportunity to learn the language of the Me-Wuk tribe.
