Winter weather and a torrential downpour here in LA have me dreaming of a springtime getaway. Airbnb has revealed some of the top travel destinations and trends coming this spring and I’m losing myself in the rabbit hole of warm weather retreats. So, which travel trends should we expect this spring?
International getaways
International travel, particularly city travel, continues to grow in popularity. According to Airbnb, US guests are on the hunt for stays in Rome, Italy; Seoul, South Korea; London, United Kingdom and more similar city getaways. Airbnb also noted that couples are especially booking travel across the pond.
Google’s list of the top 10 most popular spring break destinations tells a bit of a different story. Rome also made an appearance on their top 10 list but the similarities stop there. San Juan, Puerto Rico was #1 on Google’s list, followed by New Orleans, Louisiana and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Keeping it close to home
As for people keeping it local, travelers booking through Airbnb are looking at fair-weather locales and coastal beach towns. Cities with major sporting events are also peaking in popularity. For example, August, Georgia is a top April destination as it is the home of The Masters golf tournament while Indianapolis is a top pick for people hoping to catch the Final Four NCAA championship this year.
Overall, the most popular booking categories with US travelers include Amazing Pools, Beach, and Iconic cities. Travelers are also booking around their adventures with surfing, skiing, and golfing being some of the most booked categories.
