Hyatt veers into the Japanese market with its Ryokan range

Hyatt obviously heard we were doing a wellness-centered week and announced a unique new line of accommodations in Japan — hot spring Ryokans.

Ryokans are traditional Japanese inns, typically with some form of communal bathing, set in a typically minimal and serene environment. The range, in this case, will be dotted around the country, with each stay being designed to mirror the unique culture of the region it is found.

Named Atona, which means “me and you” in Japanese, the developments are a joint venture with Japanese brand Kiraku owning 50%. They are being branded as Hyatt properties, however, so it’s possible they may fall under Hyatt’s rewards program. The first ryokan is expected to open in 2025.
