Airbnb’s revamped look has gone down well in the past months, with the emphasis on unique stays still proving to be a pivotal draw over traditional hotels. In fact, unique listings pulled in more profits for the company than regular stays in 2021, generating over a billion dollars in earnings.
In recognition of the fact, the company released its all-time most wishlisted unique stays from around the world. The US appears twice on the list, with a surprisingly quaint mushroom forest home and a redwood treehouse both representing California.
Elsewhere, a 14th-century Irish castle, a Thai treehouse, and a stunning domed cottage in Italy help make up the numbers.
Of course, it’s not all been plain sailing for the home-sharing platform. While quirky stays like this tend to be harmless, the company is being widely criticized for its impact on local housing prices, with some cities going as far as offering residents money not to list their properties.
