Getting started in the world of points and miles can be daunting. The big intros are usually tied to pricier cards or require minimum spending that might teeter on the high end of your budget, while free options limit earning and lack big-figure bonuses.
To help counter that, Capital One’s VentureOne card is currently running an elevated intro bonus of 40,000 points after spending just $1000 in three months. A spending requirement this modest is rarely tied to that many points.
The card doesn’t have an annual fee and earns 1.25x points per dollar spent and 5x points per dollar on hotels and car rentals booked via the CapOne portal, making it the perfect beginner card (or easy points earner for seasoned pros).
Those 40,000 points could get you the following:
- A one-way Polaris class flight from JFK to LAX (25,000 points)
- A round-trip flight from the US to Europe on several airlines
- Multiple domestic flights
It’s hard to think of anyone that wouldn’t benefit from opening this card.
