Going to the Summer Olympics is technically a once-in-every-four-year experience but most of us are lucky if we experience it even once in this lifetime. The Games can be very expensive to attend, but luckily, there is now a free way to watch the Paris Games: volunteer.
Get a front-row seat to all the action by volunteering at the summer event. The organizing committee is looking for 45,000 volunteers from all over the world and the application is quite simple.
Who can volunteer and what are the requirements?
- The application is open to people ages 18 and over.
- You need to speak either French or English.
- Volunteers need to be available for a minimum of 10 days during the summer of 2024, between the opening of the Games and two days after the closing of the Paralympic Games on September 10.
What do volunteers do?
Though volunteering does not guarantee you’ll be allowed to watch the events, you still get an inside view into how the Games work. Volunteers are also the first people that athletes and spectators meet when they arrive, so they are expected to uphold France’s hospitality values.
While volunteering, you might be asked to do anything from welcome people at airports, provide info at the venue, or even collect tennis balls.
Is it paid?
Sadly, it is not paid but volunteers do get local public transport free of charge on volunteering days and are offered a meal or food voucher depending on the venue.
