American Airlines and JetBlue are expanding their domestic reach, announcing 11 new routes as part of their Northeast Alliance, all while the airlines face an antitrust lawsuit over their partnership. 

Nonstop routes from New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Boston Logan International Airport to a variety of states and some international destinations will begin in Spring 2023.

The DOJ filed an antitrust lawsuit against American and JetBlue in September 2021, which went to trial a year later in September 2022. According to the agency, this partnership reduces competition and increases fares, “opening a Pandora’s box”. 

All this commotion wasn’t going to stop the airlines from providing more routes to their customers, and so they did. 

JetBlue’s 5 new routes from New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA): 

• Atlanta – 4x daily.

• Bermuda – once daily, summer seasonal.

• Hyannis, Massachusetts – once daily, summer seasonal.

• Nassau, Bahamas – once daily.

The new JetBlue flights will go on sale in January 2023.

6 new American routes from New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA): 

• Birmingham – once daily.

• Buffalo – 3x daily.

• Columbia, South Carolina – once daily.

• Grand Rapids, Michigan – once daily.

• Greenville, South Carolina – 2x daily.

• Knoxville, Tennessee – once daily.

American flights start May 5, 2023 and are currently available to purchase. 

The two airlines will soon serve 45 of the top 50 domestic markets with this latest round of network updates. US District Judge Leo Sorokin is in the process of determining a final verdict on the antitrust case while the carriers continue to tout the benefits of the partnership.
